Job Summary
Assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider).
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse.
- Performs select clinical duties.
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
- Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies.
- Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
- May document the provider's encounter with patients.
- Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as indicated by the provider.
- Transcribes patient orders including, but not limited to, laboratory tests, radiology tests and medications.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Qualifications
Required
- High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
- Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
- Ability to assist with clinical and administrative duties in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to follow provider and registered nurse direction.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
- BLS provider – American Heart Association.
- Medical assistant certification. Any issuing authority accepted.
Working Conditions
Position may be based in a hospital or ambulatory/mobile imaging setting. Exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and infectious diseases is possible with appropriate safety precautions. Position may require assisting with patient transfers and moving equipment.
