OpTech Bionic System Analytics quickly collaborated with the client to pinpoint the source of the data for monthly tax filings. Previously, the tax specialist would manually query Vertex tables by state and use Excel to generate several pivot tables for State and Local filings. We proposed capturing the complete historical Vertex file and performing data extraction, transformation, and loading into an SQL server database.
When the client’s Sales Tax Specialist abruptly resigned, Bionic System Analytics was brought in to assist. The client was in a difficult position because filing deadlines were approaching in multiple jurisdictions.
After identifying the data set, our team defined the necessary reporting format for different tax jurisdictions and established an automated process for creating the state filing templates. Bionic System Analytics reduced the processing time from days to mere minutes, enabling automated downloads of these files to the client’s shared drive. Additionally, we developed a SharePoint app that grants the client access to data for multi-year audits and automates the reconciliation of tax accounts, ensuring compliance with Blackline audit requirements.
We transformed a two-week process into a two-day solution. Simplifying the process was paramount. The actual sales tax filings can now be moved to a shared service center. This enables the Tax group to leverage high-end analytics to focus on compliance risks and to work on process improvements that mitigate these risks.
