Job Summary
Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations and performs related duties as required. Responsible for providing accurate, high-quality diagnostic imaging while maintaining patient safety, radiation protection standards, appropriate documentation, and compliance with established clinical and customer service standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare patients for examinations.

• Review clinical data on requisitions and perform appropriate examinations.

• Obtain additional information regarding the patient’s medical history as necessary.

• Prepare procedure rooms and regularly replenish stock, including linen and related supplies.

• Analyze the patient’s anatomical structures, set up equipment, and perform CT scans.

• Manually control equipment to obtain appropriate diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied.

• Administer intravenous contrast media, including utilization of power injectors.

• Monitor patients for possible reactions related to the study and provide immediate care if a reaction occurs.

• Prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for procedures as necessary.

• Ensure adequate supplies are available and properly stored.

• Assist the Radiologist in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures, including biopsies.

• Perform imaging procedures while demonstrating the principles of radiation protection.

• Apply appropriate shielding, equipment settings, dose reduction techniques, and other ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.

• Resolve image exceptions in PACS and ensure high-quality image delivery.

• View images in PACS and confirm appropriate image and series counts.

• Complete all required study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS), including study begin, study end, and study completion.

• Review and confirm clinical protocols with the Radiologist as necessary before performing studies.

• Consistently demonstrate team member standards of excellence, including AIDET, open communication, timely response, positive attitude, fostering innovation, and respecting diversity.

• Complete all required documentation in the medical record and Radiology Information System to support clinical and billing functions.

• Perform general diagnostic radiology examinations as required.

• Maintain compliance with established hospital, radiology, safety, and patient care policies.

• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Required

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.

• Must maintain required hours of continuing medical education.

• Required Certification & Licensure

• Minimum 2 years of experience required.

• Strong clinical knowledge and technical skills related to CT imaging procedures.

• Ability to perform computerized tomographic radiological procedures accurately and safely.

• Ability to review clinical information and determine appropriate examination procedures.

• Knowledge of intravenous contrast administration and power injector utilization.

• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to potential contrast reactions.

• Knowledge of PACS and RIS systems and associated workflows.

• Ability to perform image quality checks and resolve PACS image exceptions.

• Knowledge of radiation protection principles and ALARA techniques.

• Ability to work effectively with Radiologists, patients, healthcare professionals, and hospital personnel.

• Strong communication and customer service skills.

• Current Registered Nursing License / licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing required.

• BLS Certification required.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.

• Fetal Heart Monitoring competency/certification required.

Required Certification & Licensure

• BLS Certification required.

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).

• Must hold the advanced registry in Computed Tomography (CT) or be registry-eligible.

Working Conditions
Position may be based in a hospital or ambulatory/mobile imaging setting. Exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and infectious diseases is possible with appropriate safety precautions. Position may require assisting with patient transfers and moving equipment.
