Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Coordinator, Manager, or Director, the Central Service Technician cleans, inspects, assembles, packages, disinfects, and sterilizes surgical products used to support physicians and surgical teams across inpatient and outpatient departments, Operating Rooms, Emergency Rooms, Delivery Rooms, and satellite locations. Documents and monitors sterilization processes, ensures compliance with applicable standards, maintains appropriate sterile supply levels, and proactively prepares procedure-specific case carts based on surgeon preference cards and scheduled surgical cases.
Key Responsibilities

Clean, inspect, assemble, package, disinfect, and sterilize surgical products and instrumentation.

Support physicians and surgical teams in inpatient, outpatient, Operating Room, Emergency Room, Delivery Room, and satellite departments.

Document and monitor sterilization processes in assigned areas.

Work with sterilization methods including steam, ETOH, Sterrad, and high-level disinfectants.

Ensure all sterilization monitoring methods are compliant with applicable standards.

Supply various departments with required surgical instruments, products, and supplies.

Anticipate instrumentation needs for pending surgical cases.

Assemble procedure-specific case carts according to scheduled cases and department requirements.

Receive, unpack, shelve, and stock supplies.

Maintain appropriate inventory par levels using sterile supply management principles.

Rotate sterile supplies appropriately to support inventory management.

Work closely with surgical specialty teams to ensure required supplies are available when needed.

Proactively coordinate preparation of case carts according to the surgeon's preference card.

Ensure each case cart contains the required supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants for each patient.

Maintain accurate documentation related to sterilization, supplies, and department processes.

Follow established safety, infection prevention, sterilization, and sterile supply management procedures.

Provide effective customer service and communication to hospital personnel.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
-
At least 5–7 years of experience in a related Central Service/Sterile Processing environment.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with hospital personnel.

Ability to take direction and follow established procedures and instructions.

Strong communication skills.

Demonstrated customer service skills.

Basic computer skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate sterilization and supply records.

Ability to anticipate instrumentation and supply needs for surgical cases.

Ability to work effectively with surgical specialty teams and other hospital departments.

Good attendance and reliability.

Willingness to learn department-specific processes and procedures.

Candidate will receive training as required.
Required Certification & Licensure
-
Central Service Certification required.
-
BLS certification required.
Preferred Certification & Licensure
-
BLS preferred in the education section; however, the candidate requirements specify that BLS is required.
Working Conditions
Position may be based in a hospital or ambulatory/mobile imaging setting. Exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and infectious diseases is possible with appropriate safety precautions. Position may require assisting with patient transfers and moving equipment.
